SOLUTIONSplus replication project Kick off - Battery-Swapping business model for Electric Motorcycle Taxis in Bangkok, Thailand.


On December 22, 2023 at Samyan District, Bangkok the event was hosted together with the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA, the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, STAL Group Holding Limited (Stallion), and Swap & Go Co., Ltd., supported by SOLUTIONSplus


Aim: Shift to electric vehicles, promote e-motorcycles as taxis, reduce the devastating impact of air pollution on urban residents, and enhance urban life.


Key Points: Over 210 participants attended the kick-off .


Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Director of the National Energy Technology Ctr (ENTEC), highlighted the alarming crisis of air pollution, particularly fine particulate matter PM2.5, affecting the health of Bangkok's residents. The project addresses this crisis by promoting the use of electric motorcycles, reducing emissions and improving air quality.


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pavika Sriratanaban, Director of the Institute of Asian Studies, emphasized the taxi drivers' financial aspects and highlighted the link between air pollution and health issues, urging a swift transition to eco-friendly transportation.


Mr. Akkanut Wantanasombut, researcher at the researcher at the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, discussed influencing factors for drivers to switch to electric motorcycles, underscoring the urgent need to combat air pollution for the well-being of the city's inhabitants.


Ms. June Yeonju J. Jeong from UNEP - SOLUTIONSPlus reinforced the project's goal: to introduce 30 e-motorcycle taxis, supporting first and last-mile connectivity and enhancing quality of life of urban residents.
